The key components of any effective recovery program are experience, strength and hope.
Those who have gone before us and paved the way provide that experience. We draw from their strength and take it ‘one day at a time’ hoping we too, will slay the beast.
Those dwelling in the spirit realm, our ancestors and loved ones, provide the same key components. They have paved the way and are at the ready, to offer their experience, strength and hope.
There is also strength in numbers and power in familiarity. Familiarity as in “close acquaintance”.
In my travels over the years I have found many of us struggle with or have struggled with some type of addiction. Alcohol, drugs, sex, money, perfectionism, food, you name it. Addiction in all its insidiousness rules the roost. It controls our every waking moment and sometimes slithers into our dream time to obsess us as we sleep.
We are prisoners of ‘this or that’ addiction and we can’t leave home without it. As a matter of fact, we can’t go anywhere without It. It is with us 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It invites Itself along on every ride.
This creates quite a problem because It starts to become difficult to differentiate It from us. We become so enmeshed we can’t separate It’s thoughts from our own. It has become one with us and we have become one with It.
That is, until we awaken. Until it dawns on us that enough is enough. Until we come to our senses and realize we need to take action or we will continue to spiral out of control and into the abyss of no return.
Good for us! We have just taken the first step!
And the beauty of it is we have more strength than we tend to realize. The beauty of it is that the source of our strength is also where the source of our behaviors dwell; within our ancestral line.
Our struggles are often-times linked to behaviors which were passed down throughout several generations. Behaviors we were ‘born into’. Behaviors to which, up until now, we have barely given a second thought.
Take heed…It can all change in a heartbeat!
Imagine returning to the source, to the moment the seed was planted. Imagine witnessing and connecting with that act, the act of planting the seed. Imagine learning why it was planted – out of survival or simply because that’s how it had been done over several generations. A seed planted several generations ago, which may have served your ancestors, may not serve you in the here and now.
Imagine being able to connect with the source, your family member or loved one, and having a conversation, or several conversations over a period of time, and gaining an understanding of how and why this behavior grew into a flourishing addiction with which you now struggle.
Then imagine deconstructing the behavior, transforming your unhealthy, destructive energy and planting your own seeds, seeds which will sprout forth and grow into beautiful, healthy, healed behaviors which now will be passed down to future generations.
It all begins with a simple connection.
Those who have gone before us have paved the way and offer their experience. There is strength in numbers. And hope does spring eternal!
Alleluia!
