As the holiday season rapidly approaches you may find yourself wondering what sort of mixed bag you’ll be receiving.
Can you guess what I am referring to when I say “mixed bag?”
Many are bracing themselves, others are waiting with open arms while others have no thoughts whatsoever on the matter.
The contents of the bags which I refer to may dictate how your holidays pan out. Will they be a delight or a disaster?
When the holiday season arrives it brings with it a mixed bag of feelings and emotions. The season may find you filled with joy, gladness, anticipation, and love – which is a wonderful bag worth opening!
For those whose bag may be filled with sadness, apprehension, loneliness and overall malaise, your bag may feel like it weighs a ton.
Those who have no thoughts whatsoever may simply feel devoid of emotions and just plain “meh.”
The beauty is that whatever may be within that bag and triggering your emotions, causing you to feel one way or another, is totally up to you! Yes, you!
If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a gazillion times… thoughts create things. To quote Esther Hicks: “There are no happier people on this planet than those who decide that they want something, define what they want, get hold of the feeling of it even before its manifestation and then joyously watch the unfolding as, piece by piece by piece, it begins to unfold. That’s the feeling of your hands in the clay.”
The point I am attempting to share is our minds are mighty and the mind responds to how we treat it. The mind responds to how we feed and nurture it, physiologically, spiritually and emotionally. Our beliefs play a huge role in how our minds respond to stimuli. If you make a conscious decision to find joy in your day to day activities, you will find joy. If you believe misery abounds, more than likely you will be miserable.
You get to choose what you place inside your bag – long before it is delivered. And should it be delivered with less than desirable contents – you get to change them out. There are a plethora of opportunities to plug into and many intangible reasons for you to host a grateful heart this holiday.
Although you may find it impossible to experience gratitude while in the midst of uncertainty, loss or sadness, I urge you to pause for a moment to reconsider.
There are so many intangible reasons and opportunities to fill your heart with gladness. Gratitude can be found within the memories of those who have shared their lives with us and who continue to share their lives with us.
Our memories keep alive those who dwell within the spirit realm and those who dwell within the spirit realm help to fuel and nurture our memories. What we possess and treasure can never be taken away. The joy we once felt can be rekindled in a thought.
There is more to life than meets the eye. Your “mixed bag” contains whatever you choose to believe it contains. Childlike faith, belief in goodness and truth nourish your soul. Make the decision to fill your bag with gratitude and share the contents with others. We are, after all, in this together.
