Thankful for Connections

Me & Ma Softened

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like if you were eternally accompanied by someone who loves you as deeply as you love him or her? Someone who ‘has your back’ and is always available to provide advice and guidance?

I am here to tell you – it is heavenly… literally and figuratively!

During the time my mother, Leah, walked the earth plane, while alive and in the flesh, she was a telephone call away, always available and even when we were separated by miles, we were close at heart – many of you may know what I’m writing about…

Now that she is alive ‘in spirit’ my mother and I are closer than ever.  Be that as it may, that closeness took a while for us to develop.  We first had to come to terms with her immediate and tragic death (by car accident) and then journey through the five stages of grief together; denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance, before either of us were able to restore our natural balance. (Some spirits, when transitioning in a sudden, tragic manner, find themselves disoriented and confused, as was my mother.)

The process was difficult and challenging, to say the least.  It took us a couple of years to reach our destination.  But once we ‘got it’ – we ‘got it’!

We arrived at the realization that love abides and we, each of us, dwell within the other.  Her presence in my life became stronger and more accessible.  Rather than reaching for the telephone, I learned to seek solace in a quiet location, place my hand to my heart and feel her presence.  Through this practice a mutual healing process began.  As the pieces came together, we started to once again experience the sensation of feeling restored to wholeness.

Now ours is a deeper, richer and more immediate connection.  There’s no dialing the telephone or waiting for the other to pick up the receiver on either end.  She is always with me, as I, with her.

This type of connection is available to you as well.  Our loved ones in spirit are but a thought away.  If you allow yourself the space and time to reach out and plug into their energy, you may be amazed and comforted.

If you want to initiate connection with your loved one(s), I suggest you retreat to a quiet place, a room in your home where you can block out noise, sit in your favorite chair (by the window at the bird feeders).  Then close your eyes. Inhale and exhale.  With each breath, call forth the memory of your loved one.  Place your hand to your heart and remember the good times.  Call forth those happy memories and create a ‘mental’ space in which your loved one(s) will join you.  Listen for them.  Feel them.  Commune with them.  Once you have connected – you will know the ease and grace of connection and you will begin to feel them with you always.  They will accompany you.  I promise.

My mother isn’t the only ‘person’ in spirit with whom I have direct access – there are many others: family members, friends, and even animal companions, who have passed into spirit over the years.  They fill my heart and complete my life.  The connections are plentiful.

We are never alone and for that I am thankful and very, very grateful.
